A new statewide collaboration between the Virginia Services Quality Initiative (VCSQI) and the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (VCACC) is now official. This new collaboration will identify and share best practices from both surgery and interventional cardiology data. The collaboration’s first step was to change its name and now be known as the “Virginia Cardiac Services Quality Initiative” to reflect the additional valuable data from interventional cardiology.
Within a month of the official papers being signed to form the new VCSQI, Carillon Clinic in Roanoke, Inova Health System in Fairfax, and Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond have already signed up to be a part of this exciting initiative. VCSQI’s board of directors is hopeful that all hospitals who perform both cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology will join the effort so that constant improvement is made for patients in all corners of the Commonwealth.
This initiative's goal is to improve the quality of care for cardiac patients in the Commonwealth of Virginia through cross-disciplinary collaboration between Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiologists. VCSQI is well-positioned to influence clinical outcomes and cost containment efforts by optimizing care delivery models.
VCSQI members, and the teams of caregivers in each hospital, have a unique surgery database from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the data from the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) CATH-PCI. The combination of these data bases is a progressive idea that will benefit patients. Dialogue on quality improvement aligns with providers’ incentives and furthers positive working relations between physicians, administration, and payers. Developing a successful quality improvement effort requires access to leading technology, effective group processes, sound communications, vigilant data quality assurance, proven measures and methods, documented systems changes, timely strategic thinking, and resourceful use of diverse assets. Members of VCSQI, previously and now as a part of a bigger and more robust data center, have an overriding sense of purpose, trust, and an appetite to make major accomplishments in the patient care arena.
Congratulations to the Virginia hospitals who are now part of VCSQI
